Course history

The club was founded in 1893 by the Pilkington family of Sandside, with a clubhouse to follow in 1899. The original 12 hole course was completely redesigned in 1933, with recommendations from James Braid. However, the club closed in 1940, due to a decline in population in the area. Re-opening 22 years later, as the community grew once more, and expanding with a new clubhouse and further 6 holes. Since 2017, the club is community-owned, with lots of exciting plans for the future.

Reviews...

Whenever we are up here, there’s only one hotel that we stay in! Murray, and his team, always make every guest feel so at home. The rooms are cosy, hotel well situated, by the river, and the restaurant and bar are fab. Excellent food and a great selection of drinks. Even with the covid restrictions, our stay was still lovely and we will definitely be back!
