New Caith Ness real ale available in Mackays Hotel
Mackays Hotel in Wick became the first and the only hotel in the county to stock new real ale called Caith Ness that is brewed in the Loch Ness Brewery.
The brewery director Stephen Crossland said “Our aim was to create a gentle beer and encourage people who aren’t usually ale drinkers to try it.The 4% beer is made using English fuggle hops mixed with porridge oats and honey to give it a creamy texture with a slight sweetness.
Mackays Hotel proprietor Murray Lamont, who has sold the ale at his bar for a month, said it has proven to be a popular tipple with hotel guests and locals alike. He said if the popularity of the ale continues to grow, it could prove to have benefits for tourism.There are people who use the CAMRA [Campaign For Real Ale] guide to travel to areas just to try certain ales and I think this could have a positive impact for tourists to come to Caithness.”
