Looking for a summer full of family fun? Then come to Caithness!
With the staycation becoming even more popular, many families are looking at the UK for their summer holidays.
After all, they are easier to travel to, you don’t need to change the currency and best of all, you can easily find all your home comforts in a local store!
The only trouble can be finding somewhere that little bit different to choose as your next holiday destination. If you are stuck for inspiration on where to take a family break next, then why not look at Caithness?
Caithness and the surrounding areas has plenty to offer families of all ages and sizes; which is why we have put together our top guide to summer holiday activities that the whole family can enjoy!
Are you blessed with your very own little explorers? Kids that are happy to get outside and explore the world around them? If it’s a yes, then you have to visit The Flows. The Flows is a peat bog and RSPB Nature Reserve; and is the home to a variety of different birds and insects across the thousands of different pools.
It isn’t just the peat bogs that are there, the facilities here also include Forsinard Railway Station, four-mile farm and bog pool trail and even a twice weekly guided bog walk. Just don’t forget the wellies.
If your children are older then there is a good chance that they will be looking for something that little bit more exciting to do during their break. Air Extreme, the only high ropes activity of its type in the UK, is perfect.
Finding yourself 6m above the ground this is certainly not an activity for the faint hearted. Air Extreme has six different elements to explore, beams, tightropes, loops and cargo nets before you head back down to the Earth.
They might not admit it, but sometimes kids like to learn whilst they are on holiday. Caithness Horizons Museum is an ideal place to visit. This museum boasts a number of permanent exhibitions that tell the tale of the history of the Caithness area.
There is also a gallery on site, which showcases the talent of local artists; ideal for when you want to soak up a bit of culture.
Getting Out and About
Sometimes all you need on a holiday is a good pair of hiking boots, a bike or perhaps just your own two feet. This is especially true when you visit the Caithness area. With hikes, bike rides, a whole variety of different landscapes to explore there is never a dull moment.
No trip to the highlands would be complete without a visit to one of the infamous Lochs, so makes sure that is on your activity list during your break.
Now you know exactly what fun you can have during your time in Caithness, why not find the ideal family friendly hotel to stay in? Here at Mackay’s hotel we have everything that a family could need and we are proud to make the ideal base for your next family break.
