There is no doubting that up here in Scotland we are responsible for breeding some of the most talented people out there. Sportsmen and women, actresses and comedians are just some of the celebrities that have Scottish blood. But it doesn’t stop there, in fact there are plenty of different popular musicians that were born and bred in Scotland.

Here is the Mackays run down of the very best music maestros from bonny old Scotland.

Biffy Clyro

A modern Scottish band, Biffy Clyro are ever popular in the charts, and with good reason. Originally a more underground rock band, their music has since taken the charts by storm and found them international fame. So much so that they even have their own catchphrase Mon the Biffy!

Barbara Dickson

If you are a fan of musicals, then chances are that you will have heard of Dunfermline born Barbara Dickson. Famous for performing Tin Chess with Elaine Page she has also had an impressive stage, radio and TV career and has performed for over 40 years.

Primal Scream

A Glasgow based band, Primal Scream were popular between 1987 and 2008, releasing 9 albums during this time. They were known for their love of classic rock, with their influences being cited as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Something that could definitely be seen in their ever popular music.

Annie Lennox

It cannot be a Scottish music countdown without mentioning Annie Lennox. A legend in pop music, Annie Lennox has been a popular artist for many years, and this is mainly thanks to her part in The Eurythmics. Her instantly recognisable voice and popular sound, is one that still stands the test of time.

The Proclaimers

Okay, so they may not have had the most glittering musical career, but one thing is for sure. These twins know how to write a catchy song. Charlie and Craig Reid hail from Fife, and are responsible for releasing 500 miles, a song that is still played, sang and danced to despite being released in 1987!

Rod Stewart

Whilst he may have been born in London, Rod Stewart is a Scotsman through and through. In fact, not only is he one of the best loved Scottish musicians, but one of the most favoured Scottish men in general! He has sold over 100 million records across the world and has had a glittering career that has spread throughout the years.
