Now, it is no secret that here are Mackays we love being based in Scotland. The beautiful countryside, the dramatic and rugged landscape, the amazing and varied natural world. All of these things have meant that we have known for a long time that Scotland is the most beautiful place in the world.
So, we were particularly delighted when we heard of a recent news story whereby Scotland had been heralded as the world’s most beautiful country.
We are the winners!
Voted for by the readers of travel guide, Rough Guide, Scotland has come in at the top of the list for the world’s most beautiful places. It beat countries such as New Zealand, Finland, Norway, South Africa and Canada, all to be crowned the king of the beauty spots.
What makes the victory seem all the sweeter is that England and Wales were much further down the list at 7 and 10 (only joking, we think it’s beautiful down there too).
But what is that is so beautiful about Scotland? The Chief Executive of Visit Scotland Malcolm Roughead seemed to think that it is the mixture of beautiful landscapes, historic attractions and bustling urban centres. All of these things come together to create a country that just has to be seen to be believed.
What are the most beautiful places in Scotland?
So, if you were deciding to visit Scotland and you wanted to understand more about the award winning beauty, then what are the places that you would need to visit? We have put together some of the places we recommend, from the top to the bottom of the country.
You are looking for picture perfect beauty then Loch Lomond is a great place to go. Clear waters, rolling hills and plenty of space to gather your thoughts, even locals are impressed by the beauty of this Loch.
When you think of long and straight roads through the hills you may think of America or Canada, but we have them here in Scotland. Sure you might drive a Ford Focus down them rather than a Cadillac but the look is still the same.
John O’ Groats
Often associated with long bike rides or walks, John O Groats is more than a starting or finishing place. It is also a beautiful coastal region that has plenty of amazing photo opportunities, as well as lots of historic sights too!
Not only is the city of Edinburgh the perfect place to visit, the castle itself is also beautiful, fascinating and well worth a visit!
Hopefully the Highlands will be on your list, and if it is then a great base for your exploration has to be Mackays. Warm and welcoming, we take all the beauty and charm of Scotland and cram it into our stunning hotel. Ready and waiting to show you not only the beauty of the country, but also why we should also be number 1 when it comes to welcoming visitors!
