Whilst the majority of people will think about rugged landscapes and beautiful natural wonders when they think of Scotland, there is also so much more that it has to offer. Delicious food and local produce is one of these things. So much so, that here in Caithness and Sutherland we have put together our very own Taste North Food festival.
Held at the beautiful Ackergill Tower on the 1st October 2017, this festival is your chance to sample all the amazing delights that the Highlands has to offer.
Sponsored by your very own Mackays hotel, this taste festival is one of the tasty events in the Caithness and Sutherland calendar. But what can you find at this one day of fun?
Things to see
The idea behind Taste North is that it is a family day filled with fun things to do and plenty of amazing flavours too. This means that you will find a wide variety of things that you can see, do and taste. One of the popular things to see for foodies has to be the chef’s demonstrations whereby you can learn some of the secrets of the art of creating delicious dishes. You can also sample food from a number of local producers and artisans, giving you a flavour of what the area has to offer.
For those that enjoy a good tipple then not only is there a cocktail masterclass or two, but also a number of local drinks that are crafted, cultivated and then sold right in the heart of the highlands.
As a family event, there is no chance that the organisers would forget about the little foodies that are visiting. There will also be a number of stalls that allow kids to get their hands dirty as well as learn more about where their food comes from. Add into this plenty of child-friendly entertainment, and you have the ideal family day out.
Taste North Challenge
Alongside the festival, there is also the Taste North Challenge. This is a chance for local chefs to showcase their talents and perhaps even win themselves an award. Rather than focusing on one particular area, there are two categories that you can enter into. There is a youth category and an open competition for all ages, this open competition is the one sponsored by Mackays. After all, we know what tastes good and what doesn’t!
Fancy a visit to the Taste North Festival? Coming from a little further afield? If you are, then why not book in to stay at Mackay’s? Not only are we a welcoming hotel, but we are also pretty proud of the food that we create on site too!
