It’s no secret that Mackays Hotel is a landmark in Wick. Whether walking past Ebenezer Place, frequenting the No.1 Bistro or working as a member of our team – Mackays has impacted everyday life for over half a century.
What you may not have heard is the hotel’s continuous investment in developing the young workforce of Caithness and Scotland. Training schemes and the regular development of work positions are offered from high school students right to full time employees – all with the goal of helping the team at Mackays achieve their full potential.
‘Ellie, Murray and the rest of the team at Mackays Hotel have worked tirelessly over the years to develop young people and to promote hospitality as a career path. Through their recent work with the Hospitality Hero initiative run by the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), they have opened up real opportunities for young people to get their first foot on the career ladder. Hospitality is continually under-valued as a viable career path for young people but Ellie and Murray have led the way in changing perceptions, offering attractive career paths for aspiring youngsters.’ – Trudy, Caithness Chamber

This is Mackays first time achieving this award, having previously achieved Investors in Young People, and has further motivated the hotel to develop a greater range of programs for the young workforce.
