It’s the most wonderful time of the year: there’ll be much liquor flowing and gossiping growing when loved ones are near, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
From cheesy games, awkward conversations and drinking habits verging on the alcoholic. The gathering of the family under the same roof sometimes truly defines the levels one will go to keep loved ones happy.
We hate to burst the infectious Christmas spirit which promises an easy-breezy Hallmark Holiday. However, some top tips to preemptively diffuse social bombs are a necessity to survive the Christmas season.
Survival Guide 101:
Make sure you have an ally, even if you have to bring one with you
Every family event is made easier when you are reinforced with a bestie or two as backup. Make sure to have an ally lined up to save you from the embarrassing childhood stories or when dealing with Uncle bob who’s had one too many glassed of mulled wine.
If you’re not fortunate enough to have a sibling or cousin on your side, bring along a friend and let the good times roll!
Create a mantra
Potentially one of the greatest catalysts to Christmas family drama, the personal questions summarising your life over the year can be a touchy area for some. With questions extending to developments in one’s love life, failed diets and expanding waistlines, maintaining polite conversation can be a challenge.
We recommend finding a mantra to help maintain your cool. Develop a false laugh, ensure the glass of wine in your hand is always full – find your zen and stick with it!
Relocate to a hotel:
When acting as the nominated host for the Christmas season, the preparations, hosting and cleaning up is arguably the greatest challenge of the event! If you’re a no muss no fuss kind of person, why not make your life a little easier and relocate some of your celebrations to your nearest hotel?
