It takes a special sort of someone to become a public speaker. Not only do you need to have the confidence to get up in front of a sometimes rather intimidating crowd, but you also need to be able to speak passionately about a particular subject, as well as field any questions that the crowd may have, right there on the spot.
There are a variety of public speakers out there in the world and we are rather proud to say that quite a few of them come from our very own homeland, Scotland. So, who are these great Scottish public speakers?
Aileen McGlynn OBE
If you are looking for someone who can bring a sporting touch to your event, then we highly recommend taking a look at Aileen McGlynn OBE. This amazing lady has a career that spanned 10 years and she has become one of the most successful Paralympians in the history of Scotland.
Another sporting legend, although this time a football hero is Alan Hansen. After having a career that spanned across the 70s and 80s, Alan found himself working as an analyst and pundit on the BBC, which led to him being not only a Scottish football legend but a TV star too.
If you like your public speakers to have a more general appeal, then you can’t go far wrong with Carol Smillie, a famous TV presenter she spent many years working on Changing Rooms and we are sure that she has plenty of stories to tell about all of the personalities that she encountered during this time.
Duncan Bannatyne OBE
Organising a business speaker can give you a tricky choice or two, however, if you are really looking to impress, as well as impart some of the best business knowledge out there, then you are going to need to get in touch with this former Dragon, Duncan Bannatyne OBE. What he doesn’t know about business, probably isn’t worth knowing.
For those that have watched Who Dares Wins, they are likely to have heard of former SAS soldier, turned TV star and Author, Colin MacLachlan. Able to speak on a wide range of topics including teamwork, motivation, and resilience, he is also able to share some of his own experiences during his rather interesting life.
Not every speaker needs to be on business or sport, there are some that are great for a more light-hearted approach. Kaye Adams, known for her place as a Loose Woman, makes for a fun, insightful and interesting speaker that you can book.
Whilst we can’t promise a rousing speech every time you check in, what we can promise you here at Mackays is a warm welcome, a comfortable place to stay, and some of the best food in the area. Want to find out for yourself whether or not Mackays is something to stand up and shout about? Why not book in to stay with us next time you are planning to travel north of the border.
