This month we are delighted to introduce Neil Harrold, the proud owner of Harrold Brothers Butchers. Operating since 1970, the suppliers have moulded the history of Caithness/ Sutherlandshire cuisine, providing your favourite hotels and restaurants with the meat product behind your favourite dishes.
Despite their historic dependability, the butchers are far from traditional. Through experimenting with flavours, you can enjoy a refreshing sample unlike many other butchers, with key specialities including Haggic Kievs, sausage flavours and healthy living starter packs.
This family run business originated from Neil’s father and brother and is now currently operated by Neil, his wife Geraldine, with their daughter additionally working in the shop.
In amongst the rush of supplying Caithness and Sutherland with some of the finest produce available, Neil took a few minutes to explain the magic behind the success of his labours.
Can you tell us a little bit about Harrold Brothers Butchers?
We supply to many hotels and restaurants across the Highlands, ranging within Caithness and Sutherlandshire. All of our products are prepared on our premises in Wick, where we aim to sell as much locally sourced products as possible. A particular favourite of ours is our beef range, which is sourced from the Mey Selection brand, originating from Prince Charles and the Castle of Mey.
What makes your business special?
Having been in business for so long, we have a strong, loyal customer base, who have come to expect the best quality of local produce.
What do you like about having a business in Wick?
Having stayed here all my life, there are certainly benefits of having a shop in Wick. My wife and I know almost everyone in the country, and if I don’t know them, they probably know me!
Do you have a particular favourite place in Caithness?
I love it all, although I must admit to being especially fond of the Wick area. During weekends I like to go take the dogs out for a walk to Reiss Beach.
