“We borrowed golf from Scotland as we borrowed whisky. Not because it is Scottish, but because it is good.” – Horace Hutchinson

Although this May we are all about celebrating the infamous Scotch whisky, don’t think we’ve forgotten about our other swingingly fun pastime!

Fulfil your inner wanderlust and escape upon an un-FORE-gettable getaway through a shared love of golf and the great Highland landscapes.

How you may ask?

Here’s an insight into some of the gems you can uncover across our rugged terrain.

Golf break

Founded in 1981, the 9 hole course has been extended to an 18 course masterpiece, having been altered under the supervision of renowned course architect and golfer, James Braid. Brora is a unique experience in many ways, not least including their local crofting community

Golspie Golf Course

The par 70 course is situated just a few hours’ drive North from Inverness. Designed by James Braid, the Golspie Golf Course offers a unique fusion of classic links, heath and parkland holes, and it is surrounded by stunning views from the Dornoch Firth and back drop of Ben Bhraggie.

With Golf running through the veins of Lybster for 120 years, the present club acts as a living symbol of the history behind this Caithness town. At 2000 yards for its 9 holes Lybster is one of the shortest courses in the country but makes up for its lack of length by requiring accurate play. Lybster Golf Club welcomes visitors and the green fee of £15 per day provides good value for money.

Reay Golf Club

Commanding views of Pentland Firth and Orkney, the beautiful seaside course operates as the most northerly 18 hole links course on British Mainland. The par 69 layout has excellent contoured greens, ensuring an enjoyable and challenging golf for high and low handicap players alike!

Golf Break North Coast 500

Royal Dornoch

Situated just 8 degrees below the Arctic Circle, this magnificent golfing outpost in Northern Scotland provides the opportunity for an evening golf session lasting until almost midnight during summer.

Those who are knowledgeable about the game have not been surprised that in recent times Royal Dornoch, with its panoramic views and gorse-lined fairways, has been regularly ranked by the illustrious golf panels among the world’s great courses.

Tain Golf Club in Ross-Shire is a classic Scottish Highland links course designed by Old Tom Morris in 1890 situated 9 miles south of Dornoch and 34 miles north of Inverness. With the sea on one side and backdrop of the mountains behind, each day brings different aspects of this challenging yet beautiful course, with the layout of holes guaranteeing an interesting round for beginners and experts

Wick Golf Club

Existing as the most northerly links course on the coast of Caithness, the Wick Golf Course offers the perfect excuse to experience the far north in all of its glory!

With stunning views over Sinclair Bay across to Noss Head and with unique castles in between, improve your swing in idyllic perfection.  After your round you can relax in our bar/lounge sponsored by the Old Pulteney Distillery – the only Maritime Distillery in the north of Scotland.
