We’ve chosen a special Scotch whisky for September’s Malt of the Month – Glen Scotia Double Cask!
Glen Scotia is a classic Campbeltown malt, an area which at one point called itself the “whisky capital of the world”. Now only 3 distilleries remain in the area so Glen Scotia has stood the test of time. It’s easy to tell why, with its characteristic vanilla and sea spray notes and award-winning taste (judged the best Campbeltown Single Malt in 2016).
The Glen Scotia Double Cask gets its name from how the whisky is matured. It starts life in a first-fill bourbon barrel before ending up in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask for a year. This produces a great hint of rich, spicy fruits which compliments the sea spray and vanilla oak finish that Glen Scotia is famous for.
The good people at Master of Malts know what they’re talking about when they describe the whiskies notes: the scent may remind you of bright fruit and vanilla fudge and the taste brings more sweetness and sherry flavour.
We love having this bottle in our bar, not just because of the taste, but the design is beautiful too!
