Tunes by the Dunes

One of the most popular festivals in the region has to be Tunes by the Dunes. Held on the gorgeous sands of Dunnet Beach in Caithness, Scotland this music event brings together people from all over the world to enjoy some brilliant music. It’s an over-18s only event and welcomes groups such as folk/rock band Torridon and contemporary fiddle players Blazin’ Fiddles. The relaxed atmosphere, combined with the stunning backdrop of the North Sea and rolling dunes, makes Tunes by the Dunes a memorable experience for everyone. John O’Groats Book Festival

The John O’Groats Book Festival is a year-round event, meaning there are opportunities to get involved whenever you are thinking about visiting Caithness. This festival celebrates the literary talents of Scotland and beyond, bringing together authors, poets, and readers for a series of readings, workshops, and discussions. It’s a great chance to meet authors and ask them about their way of working and latest publications. Caithness International Science Festival

The Caithness International Science Festival has grown since 2003 to become to be one of the largest events of its kind in the county. The aim is to bring fun and interactive learning experiences to people of all ages from Caithness and beyond. Caithness Music Festival

Annually throughout June

The Caithness Music Festival is a highlight of the cultural calendar and runs throughout the month of June each year. This means you will have plenty of opportunities to listen to some of the best local music during your stay in the summer. Additionally, the games feature a diverse range of musical performances, from classical to traditional Scottish music. Mey Highland Games

First Saturday in August

Ever fancied a visit to some Highland Games? Held each August in the village of Mey, this event is a quintessential Scottish experience. Everything from tossing the caber to Highland dancing and bagpipe displays has a place here, alongside food stalls and activities for all the family. The Mey Highland Games showcases the best of Scottish traditions. The games are set against the backdrop of the stunning Castle of Mey, once the home of the Queen Mother, adding a touch of royal history to the festivities. Summer Sessions

End of July / start of August

A family-friendly festival organised by the Lyth Arts Centre, this is a great place to come with the kids. Music, workshops and food all await in Wick! Taste North

Held annually at the beginning of November

Finally, the Taste North festival is a destination for food lovers. Some of the best and newest food and drink can be sampled and bought here.
