Trash the dress in Scotland
The best trash the dress locations in Caithness
Once the wedding is over, the bills have been paid and the honeymoon has been enjoyed, there’s still one more thing many brides like to do. That’s right – trash the dress! But what does trashing a dress involve, and where can you do it in Caithness?
A trash the dress photoshoot is all about one last hurrah wearing probably the most expensive single piece of clothing you will ever buy – your wedding dress. For many, they want to keep and preserve the dress for sentimental value. Others may wish to pass it down to their children, or even give it to charity. For others, it’s an opportunity to do a photo shoot like no other and really go out with a bang! From ancient castle ruins to crashing waves, there are plenty of dramatic scenery options for you to pick from here in northern Scotland. Get some astounding photos to last a lifetime and wave bye-bye to your dress forever.
Castle Sinclair Girnigoe
Top of our list of suggestions is Castle Sinclair Girnigoe for a trash the dress photoshoot. This dramatic ruin of two castles sits high atop the crashing waves of the North Sea and depending on the time of year and time of day can offer a multitude of options. From dramatic sunrises to stormy clouds, you can have it all here with the castle as an amazing background as you show off your dress for the last time. These photos will surely be ones to be remembered.
There are many other beautiful castles in the area around Mackays Hotel in Wick. Check out our things to do pages for some more inspiration.
The Trinkie & the North Baths
Why not make sure of Wick’s two outdoor pools for a slashingly good time? The Trinkie at the south of the town and the North Baths at the (you guessed it) north are both great locations to get wet, splash about and have a great time with your dress. Ever wanted to look like that bit in the Little Mermaid when she splashes her hair in a curve coming out of the water? Here’s your chance! Both of these outdoor pools have fantastic natural backdrop of the North Sea and coastline, and when the tide is coming in you can often get some great waves on a windy day.
Wick beaches
We have some stunning beaches near us in Wick, and they are all brilliant locations for a trash the dress shoot. Roll in the sand, splash in the waves or even throw some seaweed around – much better than confetti! Try a beach trash the dress in Scotland here:
Keiss Beach
Pure white sands, wide open spaces and dramatic dunes. Keiss beach is only a 12 minute drive away from Mackays Hotel and has car parking facilities. Stunning photos are sure to be had here.
Dunnet Bay
Just a half hour away in the car, Dunnet Bay offers spectacularly rugged beach landscapes. The nearby Dunnet Head Lighthouse offers a unique photo opportunity as the wind takes up your dress train. And above all, if you do your shoot here you’ll have bragging rights that it happened at the most northerly point of the British mainland!
Peedie Sands
If you are looking for something more remote, then Peedie Sands may be just for you. There’s a clamber over some rocks to get to it (which is a photo opportunity in itself) and it’s usually a quiet beach. This is perfect for a more intimate trash the dress shoot.
Achanarras Quarry Nature Reserve
If you are looking for a location which offers an almost other-worldly backdrop, then visit the Achanarras Quarry Nature Reserve. Whilst care needs to be taken so as not to damage the rocks, this quarry offers the opportunity for a photoshoot that is all about contrasts – a beautiful wedding dress amongst the dark shale of a time long ago. It’s only half an hour west from Mackays Hotel.
