It’s wedding season here in Scotland! June, July and August are the most popular months for tying the knot, mainly due to the warmer weather. We’re gearing up for this year’s summer weddings at Mackays Hotel in Wick and loving every second. Our summer dates fill up quickly, particularly weekends, so if you’re thinking of holding a wedding with us next year, please get in touch as soon as possible to secure your date. Here are a few tips for our summer wedding couples, to help you plan your big day…
Plan for all weathers
In the summer months, average temperatures range from around 8°C to 16°C here in Wick. Be prepared for anything from warm and sunny to cool and wet weather. It’s always worth having some umbrellas on standby for your red carpet arrival.
There are lots of fantastic outdoor locations nearby for your summer wedding photos. After the ceremony, we can take you to our picturesque Secret Garden. Then enjoy a romantic stroll along the riverside and pose beside the fountain. Other wonderful backdrops include Reiss Sands, the Black Stairs, Argyll Square and the ruins of Castle Sinclair Girnigoe.
Summer colours and themes
Getting married in summer calls for a warm colour palette. Think blush pinks, soft peaches, sunny yellows, rich reds and vibrant oranges. You could also choose a summer theme for your wedding, such as festival or carnival. Local event styling companies like Caithness Event Hire and K. G Events can help with venue decorations.
Choose in season flowers for your bouquet and table decorations for a summery feel. These may include roses, hydrangeas, sunflowers, dahlias, peonies and delphiniums. To continue the theme, you could also add summer floral motifs to your stationery and signage.
