Testimonials
Delightful in every way, a carefully run and very welcoming hotel
“I stopped here with my group of guests and it was a delight. The hotel is warm, welcoming and immaculate. We had a lovely courteous welcome from Murray, Fiona and the young waiters Conlan and Sean. Sean was very happy to chat with my American clients about life in Wick and to show them the shortest street in the world Ebenezer Place. I only wish we could have stayed longer to explore this interesting town.”
Lovely dog-friendly stay
“Booked an apartment, had a lovely stay, plenty of room even with 2 large floofs. Excellent base to visit the north of Scotland.”
A Classy Friendly Place to Stay
“Stayed B&B in one of the apartments with my two dogs. The apartment was lovely, everything was very clean, and it was quiet. The breakfast was top class, we also had dinner there and the food is amazing. Possibly the best thing about the hotel is the staff, nothing is too much bother and they were all lovely people. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, explored all around Wick, and it’s only a few min drive to John O’Groats. MacKays Hotel is a great base to explore from and its other claim to fame is that it is on the World’s shortest street!”
Very welcoming and dog friendly
“Very friendly staff who went above and beyond to make my dog and I feel very welcome with a dog bed, dishes and dog towel set up in the room. Clean, comfortable with a lovely breakfast and dinner menu. I also appreciated that there was a separate area for eating with dogs, which I’m sure would benefit those travelling without one or who have allergies. This way, everyone is catered for. I would definitely recommend staying here if you plan a trip to Wick.”
Mackays is a hotel where memories are made
“Mackays Hotel is family owned and guests are treated as part of the family. The welcome is warm and friendly, and the rooms are of a very high standard. Every year we travel north to stay in Mackays and celebrate my birthday in the in-house Bistro, not many restaurants are worth travelling 5 hours to visit! We’ve just returned home from our latest visit to Mackays and are looking forward to our next one.”
Fabulous Highland Hospitality!
“Excellent hotel with Murray and Ellie Lamont epitomising all that is fantastic about Highland Hospitality. My wife and I attended the Golden Wedding Anniversary of some good friends, and all guests from Wick, London, and all points in between were treated to a superb evening with a scrumptious breakfast to enjoy the next morning!”
Probably the best weekend ever
“My Wife and I attended a wedding in the MacKays Hotel Wick, stayed for a night. The event was excellent, well organised and brilliantly hosted by the proprietors. They ensured that we all felt like a part of what is a very well family run Hotel. Every single member of staff were brilliant and couldn’t do more to make the wedding day and our stay go any better. A brilliant experience from start to finish.”
Perfect Day
“We had the perfect wedding day, Ellie, Murray and the team went above & beyond and couldn’t do enough for us. We didn’t have to lift a finger. We couldn’t fault the team and are so happy we chose Mackays, we received the best service, from the planning right through to the day itself. We highly recommend the Mackays hotel team for your venue, as nothing was too much trouble, and everything can be personalised to your own tastes/style.”
Stunning Afternoon Tea
“Took afternoon tea with a friend here yesterday. They staff could not have been more accommodating of us. The selection of sandwiches and cakes was staggering – I definitely left with a full tum! And the soup was a delightful (and delicious) addition to what was, from start to finish, a delightful afternoon. Thank you for making our afternoon so memorable.”
A first-class stay
“Mackays Hotel is first class, from the welcome at the reception, all the staff and of course Ellie and Murray. The rooms are spotless and spacious. I have had dinner on our Highland Safari every year since 2001 – the food is wonderful and the service is very professional.”
Excellent food
“Went to the restaurant. Staff were attentive and polite. Food was excellent. I had Chicken Supreme – chicken succulent, potatoes really good and veg cooked perfectly. Husband had haddock and chips – really enjoyed. Finished with sticky toffee pudding – could eat it all again!”
This hotel is part of a perfect slice of the Northeast coastal highlands.
“A Warm Highland Welcome Awaits You”: is true. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. The person who checked us in, Chita, was so kind and gracious to us while he checked us in and tended bar for us. Definitely check out the whiskey bar and look forward to breakfast. The accommodations were very elegant. The building is historic, and it entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2006 for having the shortest street in the world as its address!”
