Celebrate Hogmanay in Scotland

Hogmanay is one of the most eagerly awaited days in Scotland. Otherwise known as New Years Eve on the 31st December, it’s a time when people get together with friends and family to celebrate out with the old year and in with the new. Hundreds of people enjoy the Wick Hogmanay street party which makes for a fantastic way to see in the new year. There’s plenty of festivities going on and everyone is always in good cheer! Join the laughter, singing and even some fancy dress if you can brave the cold. Taking a wee nip of whisky can help with that though…

Bignold Park bonfire

An extra special tradition here in Wick is the bonfire the town holds each year at Bignold Park, just a short ten-minute walk from Mackays Hotel. You’ll see it from far off – it’s a welcoming sight on a cold night with plenty of music to be had around it too. Wick folk love visiting the bonfire – it had become quite the popular attraction. It’s a great place to meet others, wish them well and share a laugh. 

Make sure you bring your camera to this, as it’s a great sight and will be sure to be one of your most favourite memories of Hogmanay in Wick.
