Brora Golf Club in Scotland

A James Braid golf course in the far north

Brora Golf Club is located in the village of Brora in Sutherland, northern Scottish Highlands. It’s about one hour’s drive from us here at Mackays Hotel, down the east coastline. This beautiful course has 18 holes, designed in 1924 by the famous course architect and golfer, James Braid. Visitors are welcome and you can book a tee time online in advance. Brora is one of the best golf courses in Scotland, although perhaps less well-known than some of its neighbours, such as Royal Dornoch and Golspie. So, this hidden gem with spectacular North Sea views is not to be missed!

Course history

Established in 1891, Brora is a classic links course known for its scenic beauty and challenging design. Initially a 9-hole layout, golf architect James Braid redesigned it into an 18-hole course in the 1920s, using natural undulating fairways, strategic bunkering and stunning coastal views. The course is on common grazing land, which means that livestock, including sheep and cattle, roam the greens. Brora’s remote beauty attracts golfers from around the world, and the course is consistently ranked as one of the best in Scotland.

Reviews...

We had booked this for the first of a two night stay in Wick. The food was so good we reserved a table for the following evening. The staff were excellent, one member of the team I think called Craig went above and beyond on both evenings to make our meal an experience. Highly recommend
